Over 500 years of history is associated with this lake, with a past history of local monks from the Abbey of St.Meen la
grand farming carp for the table. It also provided waterpower for the Mill situated on the edge of the lake for 150
years, producing flour for the surrounding areas.
In the Second World War the German occupation meant a garrison with 200 troops and gun placements.
After the war the lake was mainly used by the villagers at Loscouet thus, it stayed a quiet, ignored local feature until
1988 when re-shaped, rebuilt and restocked it to create the lake you see today.

is now the west bank. |

now the corner of the dam wall. The island

The river Meu (which up until 1987 fed
directly into the lake) & Lake has played an
important role in the towns history. Providing
fresh water, milling and washing in its past.
This bridge pictured is still used by the town
for baptizing. |

During world war 2 the lake was garrisoned by over 200 german troops towards the later years of the war.
Towards the end of the war the troops garrisoned there laced the dam wall with dynamite with the intention of flooding
the valley, stopping any incoming allied troops.
Thankfully the plan was never carried out and the dam wall stands strong to this day, although obviously minus the
dynamite. |
Lac Fishabil is the only lake to ever hold the OFFICIAL World Carp Cup, and to hold the OFFICIAL world carp
cup twice speaks volumes for the quality of the fishery.
